A Message from Matt

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and that 2024 is off to a good start for you and your loved ones. This will be a big year for our province, and along with our team of NDP MLAs and our leader, Carla Beck, I will continue to focus my efforts on the things that matter most to the people of Saskatchewan: health care that’s there for you when you need it cost of living supports to make life more affordable adequate funding for education to address our crowded and complex classrooms growing the number of good paying jobs.

During the fall session in the legislature, our team was honoured to bring these priorities forward in the assembly. We pressed the Sask Party government to take action on our crumbling health system by listening to nurses, paramedics and doctors. We called for cost of living relief, and proposed a six month pause on the fuel tax to help folks save at the pumps. We exposed the Sask Party government’s misplaced priorities in education, and called for adequate funding for our classrooms.

We were also fortunate to have several individuals and groups come to the legislature to speak about how this government’s decisions have impacted their lives. A grieving mother who lost her child to suicide came to the legislature to share how mental health supports for youth are simply not available. A large group came to advocate for their older loved ones who were being forced by the government to move out of their care home. Our efforts were successful, and those seniors were able to stay in their home! Health care workers came to sound the alarm on the impact low staffing has on getting folks the diagnostic tests they need. Following the end of the fall sitting, I was back in Eastview for most of December and all of January. I spent lots of time connecting with constituents, meeting with education stakeholders, and supporting teachers on the picket line. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact my office if there is anything I can do to better serve you or someone else in our community. Stop by anytime or come join me at my MLA open house on March 16th 2023, 1 – 3 pm.

In service,
